At U11’s we concentrate on “Child Centred Learning”. In short we want the children to have as much fun as possible whilst playing Rugby. (In all weather conditions!)
We play contact rugby - it is an 9-a-side game incorporating running, passing, tackling and rucking with contested 3-player scrums. The key difference for the players this year is the introduction of the 2-person ruck, tactical kicking and kicking restarts. This is in line the RFU’s New Rules of Play, a pathway to introduce the game of rugby to young players. There are 3 stages starting with tag rugby for U7/U8s, mini rugby for U9/U10s, and midi rugby for U11/U12/U13s, so that by U14s the players are ready to play the full 15-a-side game. u11 Age Grade Variations
We have 45 registered players and are very fortunate to have 10 coaches and helpers. All our coaches and helpers are DBS checked. We have 6 coaches who have formal RFU qualifications and we have RFU trained referees. Many of the coaches are parents and we encourage parents to get involved wherever possible.
Our Principals of Guiding our U11’s revolves around the 5 key RFU principals namely…
T - TEAMWORK
R - RESPECT
E - ENJOYMENT
D - DISCIPLINE
S - SPORTSMANSHIP
We deliver this through child centred learning ensuring that all games are….
A - ACTIVE
P - PURPOSEFUL
E - ENJOYABLE
S - SAFE
Through this we hope to develop the children’s skills meeting the RFU’s key principals.
During the course of the year we aim to get all the children to at least 1 tournament.
Our coaching philosophy is focussed on helping children, coaches and parents to gain a better understanding of what it takes to succeed in playing rugby. Success is not about winning – Play to Win Lose with a Grin.
