We have a squad of over 30 boys of varying skills, ability and size. Enthusiasm is as important as experience and lack of school rugby is no barrier. Many of our players are new to the game and pick it up very quickly.
Wimbledon College supplies a lot of our squad but we also have players from many other schools including Emmanuel, Kings College, John Fisher, Rutlish, Hampton, Halliford, Whitgift and Epsom College.
As well as the Surrey competition games, we arrange numerous friendly matches against other clubs and endeavour to ensure that all squad players get to play in competitive matches.
Our core aims are:
To have Fun and enjoy the great game of rugby
Progress of skills, ability and confidence - We ask players to 'be ambitious and have courage
Socialising - most players (and parents!) become friends and enjoy many social events and tours
Ensure a competitive, safe and fun environment
Build a strong sense of “team" within the player groups - there is a place for everyone and you cannot win on your own
Build a strong sense of identity with Old WImbledonians RFC - we are a community club and fully inclusive
Treat players, coaches, referees and parents with respect at all times
Recognise and celebrate successes in a positive, supportive environment (from a good pass to winning a tournament)
With that in mind youth level rugby is all about maintaining skills progression and developing them over the year combined with lots of fitness and fun under the watchful eye of head coach - Jack.
We have a number of RFU Level 1 and 2 qualified coaches, first aiders and RFU qualified referees. We encourage parents to get involved, and will support those who want to take qualifications, so there are enough for all the players to have a great time. All first aiders, coaches and referees are DBS checked.
Training is 11:00 - 12:30 on Sundays at our grounds on Coombe Lane, and we have fixtures throughout the season. We ask that all players register pitchside with the Team Manager.
Come along and see whether you like it (and us). Any specific questions about joining us, contact the coaches or team manager. (Warriors u16s)
